Getting ready...

So I've been preparing for this jaw surgery for a really long time now. I've been compiling a list of items that I will want/need so I'd be ready. Now that it is LESS than a month away- I should probably get to buyin some of this stuff. Especially if I want to get them cheap and online.

I know everyone's recovery is a little different but I'm hoping I'm able to use most of this stuff:

Things To Buy:
  • Bed Buddy
  • Jaw Bra
  • Aquaphor
  • Children's Motrin
  • Fiber supplement
  • Protein powder
  • Q-tips
  • Moist Facial Cleansing Towelettes
  • Boogie Wipes
  • Kleenex with Aloe or Lotion
  • Wisp Brushes
  • Notebook to write down meds/times
  • NutriSqueeze Bottle and/or syringe
  • neck pillow (need a new one) (borrowing my mom's)
  • Pedestal Mirror
Food:
  • Go Go Squeeze and other types of baby food (going to be pretty easy to feed Amelia and I for the first few weeks, haha)
  • Naked Juice
  • Ensure
  • Gatorade
  • Smoothie ingredients (or packs)
  • Beef Broth
  • Jello
I'm sure after two or three weeks my diet will look more like soft foods like eggs, pasta, etc. Going to use the bullet/blender so much those first few weeks I'm sure.

Any other suggestions???? I'll probably add more to the list, but for right now I'm going to get to work ordering a few things online!!! :)

One month before surgery! 2-24-14. Crooked smile. Crooked nose. Yay.

1 YEAR POST OP

Well HEY! Nothing much has been happening with my mouth lately (WHICH IS GREAT!) so that's why I haven't updated or anything. But TODAY marks ONE YEAR since my jaw was broken in two places! Can't believe that I went though with it. It was honestly the best medical decision of my life (except for maybe my epidural HAHA). I wear my retainers in the evenings and all night. I see my orthodontist and my surgeon in April. I'm hoping I get the go ahead from my ortho to only wear to bed, but we'll see. I'm still extremely happy with my smile. There are tiny gaps in little places occurring but there's nothing I can do about those- says my ortho. Just normal movement. They don't bother me either. I still can't really feel my upper gums, but it doesn't bother me at all anymore. It's just weird sometimes. I love my smile! I wish I had more to say, but here's some photo spam instead. :P Me, TODAY. Loving life and my new smile!  Me...

Surgery date soon to come!!!

I'm too excited to wait to post... I will be getting a surgery date THIS WEEK! My orthodontist met with the surgeon on Friday and they said I'm "officially" ready!! They called me at like 4:30 on Monday afternoon and told me to call the surgeon. Even though I had an 8 a.m. appt on Tuesday morning at the ortho, lol. So I called on Tuesday afternoon and they were like... um we don't even have the paperwork back from their meeting yet- haaaaaa. So they were like- we will call you before Friday. So by FRIDAY I will have a date!!!!! Hopefully. I'm just so excited. And extremely nervous. Mostly nervous. And for the first time in like four months my teeth hurt after the adjustment they did. Yuck. It was hard to chew things yesterday. It's mostly better today though. And as far as breastfeeding goes- my supply dropped when I had a bad illness two weeks ago. So I thought I'd start feeding her formula for one bottle per day to start weaning her, then s...

2 months post op!

Wow! I can't believe it's been 2 months already! SO much has changed within the past 2 weeks. I'm hoping it's all thanks to my splint removal! That thing was miserable. Things are really great right now. Amelia, 10 months old ahhhhh, is sleeping through the night now and that makes a HUGE difference. Swelling: It still varies, but it's mostly not noticeable to random people. I notice a little bit. Still around my upper cheeks but it's definitely not as bad as it was. Now that I'm chewing I think that has helped a lot. My lips are back to their regular size! Numbness:  My upper palate and upper gums are still numb. Makes things a little hard to chew but I'm getting the hang of it. Not sure if I'll ever get feeling back there. It's a little annoying because I think I have a cavity on one of my upper teeth and it hurts to floss, but only at the root of my tooth, haha. I guess that's a good thing? Pain : Only after ortho adjustments. No r...
